As January rolls around and 2011 begins, many of us are trying to implement the New Year’s resolutions we rattled off over the party season. This hasn’t worked for me so far, so I’m going to take a different approach this year. Skip the resolutions and reflect and refocus instead – looking back over the year that was and looking forward to the year that will be.
Resolutions too often emphasise what we perceive as our shortcomings, things we have to ‘do better’. I’d advocate taking a holistic approach and grabbing 2011 by the horns by streamlining, organising and beautifying your life. Whether this means going green, ramping up your health and fitness (p82, 103), eating better or simply spring cleaning your makeup bag with some great new products (p14, 84), even the smallest gestures can set you off on the right course to making this your most personally successful year yet. Check out Clean, Calm and Collected on page 100. Here we look at not only organising and de-cluttering the physical side of your life but doing a clean sweep for mental clarity, too.
But it wouldn’t be a fresh start without a little self-reinvention. Whether choosing a new signature fragrance (p62) or identifying key trends for hair, skin and makeup we’ve got your back.
Once you’ve spring cleaned your beauty cabinet, you’re going to need to stock the shelves. Check out Nautical but Nice and Born Militant for the latest in makeup fashion (p36) or A Firm Foundation (p29) for age-appropriate makeup bases.
While the summer break is blissful, the travel, partying and sun and surf take a toll on our looks. Check out our holiday specials – Holiday Hair will take care of your styling-ravaged tresses (p76) while Holiday Skin (p72) will repair and renew your face and body. Understanding your skin’s needs is key to treating it right, so brush up on what ‘serious’ skincare ingredients are and what they can do for you with our Hi-tech Beauty School on page 48.
At Bella we’re celebrating the release of the first issue of our sister publication, Bella Beauty Indonesia. Our geographic neighbours are currently lapping up the wealth of skin advice and heavenly product pages gracing their premier issue. As the world becomes smaller and more globalised, women everywhere are being united by their mutual love of all things beauty.
Cheers to a new and exciting 2011, beauties!
